Getting Ready For Childbirth:
My First Time

When I first became pregnant I remember that as soon as the excitement of being pregnant set in, the next thought into my head was "AHHHHHHH!" I knew that "THAT" day was now closer than I had ever wanted it to be. It was definite. It was definitely coming...and there was now no way to avoid it. I didn't really wanted to avoid it- but it was scary! Of what day am I speaking? You know it- Labor Day, Birth-Day, D-day! That day was coming- when it would be my turn to under go the physical anguish know to me as labor!

This was not a thrilling feeling.

Plus, I had already made up my mind, and this probably made things even a bit more nerve racking- that I was going to give birth naturally. Not maybe, possibly, or "I hoped to"- I was giving birth naturally; I was determined.

This was to my advantage- and I'll tell you why.

Instead of wasting time, worrying about if I should "try" to go natural or which drugs I should use for all of the "pain" I would be in, instead I got to spend all of my time getting ready for childbirth. Major advantage and very important!

You see, I had been given what I consider now very important gift. I had been told, by my father, all of my life that giving birth is a very normal, natural, and very achievable part of life. You do not need to scream, you do not need to rant and rave, and you do not need to be out of control... it is all up to you, and you can make it what you will. Hearing this as I grew up was very important to me because, in case you haven't noticed, there is not been a lot of positive childbirth propaganda around. I'll bet more than 90%+ of what we here about childbirth is negative and down right scary!

But hearing this from my father whom I trusted, and looking up to my mother who had achieved it- planted a very important seed. I could do it. I knew I could! And nothing anyone could say would deter me from that belief!

Now that I Knew I could do it- I had to figure out how? You see even though I knew I could do it- there was still a lot of negative training, (movies, stories, pictures, and more) that all told me that what childbirth was like: painful!

I knew it could be done but how was I going to get through it?
