Why Read Birth Stories?

It's Fun
Reading birth stories can be a lot of fun, especially when you are about to write your own. It will be a new experience. You have no idea what will happen.

Bottom line. There is no way of knowing what your childbirth experience will be like.

Kind of scary? A little intimidating?
How can you get ready for childbirth when you have no idea what to expect?

Prepare for what may happen, and try to be ready for what will happen.

Everyone knows that your labor will never be the same as your friends, your sisters, your mothers, or any other woman’s for that matter. In fact your first labor will not be the same as your second, third, or fourth labor, but you can learn something from each one.

Birth stories help us prepare for what may happen.
As you read each story, consider these and other questions:

How and when did their labor start?
How did they know?
How did they deal with the pain?
How long was their labor?
What happened?
How did they handle it?
And so on…

Then, so you can benefit, you ask yourself a few questions:

What would I have done in that situation?
How would I have handled that?
What would I have done differently?
How can I be ready if that same thing happens to me?

A Little More Familiar, A Little Less Scary
With each story, labor will become a little more familiar and a little less scary. Besides, you might just learn something that will help you when it’s your turn.

So, click on the links below and enjoy these birth stories of women just like you!
(And after you give birth, be sure to come back and share so that others can benefit from your childbirth experience.)

But Beware:
Be careful not to let someone else’s bad experience or scary stories frighten you. Just learn from them. Long labors, unexpected medical problems, and other labor complications happen. This does not mean they will happen. Read “Fears of Childbirth” for more ways to prepare for the unexpected.

Now it's time to go back and start reading Birth Stories!
