Aromatherapy and Childbirth
Aromatherapy and Childbirth: Why Use Aromatherapy?
Have you ever caught a scent in the air and have your whole state of mind change instantly? Familiar scents can bring back memories
and feelings that will produce a new emotional state of being instantly.
Remember the smell of grandmas cookies? The smell of your mothers favorite perfume? Or maybe the smell of the air after a
fresh rain? Scents can have a powerful effect on how you feel and can be used to help you relax.
Aromatherapy uses your sense of smell to help you relax by providing you with different scents and smells that induce a calmer
state and encourage relaxation. Essential oils are used alone or in combination for maximum effectiveness. They can be used to
simply add fragrance to the air and some can be used during massage. What better way is there to relax then by creating a soothing,
calm, and peaceful atmosphere? Simple, easy, effective.
Which Oils Should I Use?
There are certain essential oils selected for use during childbirth. Some of the more commonly used oils are
lavender, rose, neroli, and peppermint. These are not the only oils used by any means and the combinations are many! Test
out which scents you enjoy and help you to feel more relaxed. Then make sure you have them on hand for when labor begins. You are now
one step closer to relaxing through and enjoying the birth of your baby!
